BUDAPEST, Hungary - Four incoming recruits for the University of the Incarnate Word's artistic swimming team competed at the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The competition, which ran from Aug. 12-16, wrapped up the third and final international event of the summer, featuring current and future UIW athletes.
The four represented their home countries: Ece Ungor (Turkey), Marta Huidobro (Spain), and Kyla Williams and Jasmine Peloquin (Canada).Â
Williams and Peloquin competed for Canada in two team events. In the team technical event, Canada placed 11th out of 21 nations with a score of 238.2700. In the team acrobatic event, they placed sixth out of 18 nations with a score of 192.3901.Â
Marta Huidobro also competed in the team events for her home country of Spain. In the team free event, Spain placed second in the prelims with a score of 257.3944, before finishing third in the finals with a score of 251.1846. In the team technical event, Spain placed third out of 21 nations with a score of 273.0474, while they finished fourth out of 18 nations in the team acrobatic event with a score of 200.5535.
In Ungor's third international competition of the summer, she competed in three events for Turkey. She and her duo partner competed in the duet free and duet technical events. In the duet free, the pair qualified for the finals after placing ninth out of 22 nations in the prelims with a score of 258.4829. They improved their score in the finals to 260.3142, moving up to eighth place. Ungor also placed eighth in the duet technical with a score of 267.0882 and 14th in the team technical with a score of 219.9951.
With international events wrapped for the summer, the Cardinals head back to campus with eyes set on preparing for the upcoming season.Â
