The Incarnate Word women's track and field team opened the Texas Relays with the heptathlon.

Two Cardinals are competing in the event, Isabella Gonzalez-Velasquez and Lexie Leal. Gonzalez-Velasquez is in 11th after the first four events and Leal sits in 19th heading into day two.

Gonzalez-Velasquez started her day with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.10 seconds. She then placed third in the high jump to move into fourth in the heptathlon standings. She closed the day with 15th and 18th-place finishes in the shot put and 200-meter dash.

The second day of the Texas Relays gets underway on Thursday, with the conclusion of the heptathlon and the start of the individual events.
