The Incarnate Word women's golf team, in their return to the links after a two-week absence, sits in second place after the first day of the Cardinal Challenge, hosted by Lamar University. The Cardinals sit at +33 as a team, carding a total of 609 after the first two rounds at Beaumont Country Club.
Isabella Saenz is +2 for the tournament, shooting a 74(+2) in the first round, then closing with an even-par 72 in round two. She had a steady round one going, with two birdies and two bogeys through 17 holes, but a double-bogey on the 18th to finish at +2 and slide into a tie for fourth. Saenz opened her second round with back-to-back birdies, quickly getting back to even for the tournament, but after going +5 over the next 10 holes, she posted three-straight birdies to get back to +2 and finish the day tied atop the leaderboard.
Sitting in eighth place is
Victoria Bauer, who is +9 for the tournament after a 74(+2) and 79(+7) in her first two rounds. She had four birdies through her first 10 holes, but a late-round double-bogey brought her to the +2 finish.
Jordan Sandoval is a spot behind Bauer, tying for ninth at +10 for the tournament.
Maria Jose Ramirez and
Arwen Settipalli are separated by 2 strokes and 2 spots on the leaderboard with Jose Ramirez sitting in 19th at +17 for the tournament while Settipalli is 21st with a +19 score.
The Cardinals will look to push for their first win of the spring season as they close out the final round of the Cardinal Challenge tomorrow, March 31st, with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
