Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team hit the road this past weekend for two tough matches against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday and UTRGV on Monday. The team showed grit and resilience across both matchups, continuing to fight hard in the final stretch of the season.
Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Cardinals came out strong, securing the doubles point with wins at lines 2 and 3. In singles, despite falling short overall, the team competed well. Lyric Bonilla and Amelie Montalvo both took their first sets and kept the pressure on throughout their matches, giving UIW chances to win. Gonzalez and Matovic also fell short in two tight matches.
On Monday against UTRGV, the Cardinals battled in a tight 3-4 match. Although they dropped the doubles point, the team responded with determination in singles. Estefania Gonzalez, Lyric Bonilla, and Amelie Montalvo all came through with clutch three-set wins. Gonzalez's match was especially dramatic, as she saved multiple match points before clinching her victory.
The team showed great fight and is looking forward for the last two home matches of the regular season against Nicholls and New Orleans. The Cardinals will celebrate graduate student, Lyric Bonilla for her "Senior Day" on Saturday at 10am against Nicholls.
