SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will open the season with the UIW Tournament from Feb. 7-9, hosting UT Arlington, Prairie View A&M, and Eastern Illinois. The Cardinals will play five games over the weekend, facing off against Eastern Illinois and UT Arlington twice and PVAMU once.

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
- Last season UTA finished with a 23-24 record and made a run to the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament.
- Jessica Adam is a key returner for the Mavericks as she pitched 114 innings last season and was dominant at the plate.
- UTA added a lot of depth this summer bringing in transfers such as Dee McClarity from Texas Tech, Mia McNulty from UCLA and Elizabeth Baylor from New Mexico.
SCOUTING THE PV PANTHERS
- PV only lost one conference game last season, dominating the SWAC with a 23-1 record.
- The last time these two teams played the Cardinals narrowly beat the Panthers 4-3.
- The Cardinals lead the all-time series 17-3.
SCOUTING THE EIU PANTHERS
- EIU is returning the OVC Players of the Year, third baseman, Kendall Grover, who led the conference with 10 home runs and was second in RBI's with 46.
- McKenzie Oslanzi also returns for the Panthers after being named OVC Freshman of the Year and was put on the All-OVC first team.
- Eastern Illinois will have four position players returning this season.
