SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word Artistic Swimming team will travel to Norton, Massachusetts February 15th-16th for the MPSF Conference Championships at Wheaton College. Last weekend, the Cardinals had an impressive outing, winning a home Tri Meet against Ohio State and Texas Women's College.  

In the Tri Meet, UIW won with a total score of 99 points. Ohio State followed with 88 and Texas Women's with 73. Marloes Steenbeek was stellar in the solo competition, winning it with a routine score of 189.943. Seniors Abby Remmers and Paige Areizaga were tied for the most points at the meet with 47 and placed second in duet and first in both trio and team. Maria Bofill Strub was also on the winning trio team. Both Cardinal teams took first and second in the team competitions as the Cardinals hope to carry momentum into the Conference Championships. 

"I couldn't be prouder of how prepared our girls were for the competition and how they carried themselves throughout the practices leading up to it," stated Graduate Assistant Juliana Damico. "We had a couple of basemarks, but it was amazing to see how they reacted—they're excited to keep working and getting better. Having both teams take first and second place was a great accomplishment, and winning the trio and solo events against tough competitors like TWU and OSU was incredible. This week, we're focused on making some improvements, and we are looking forward to an exciting and promising competition at MPSF this weekend."
