SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team is set for their second tournament of the year in Houston. The Cardinals will start the weekend playing the University of Pittsburg and University of Nevada twice and wrap things up facing Houston on Sunday afternoon.

- Victoria Altamirano was stellar for the Cardinals in the opening weekend tournament. In her 18 at bats, she scored six runs, had five RBI's on seven hits, with two home runs. She not only leads the Cardinals in all of these categories but is also top five in Southland.
- Larissa Jacquez pitched in two games last week. In her first outing she pitched six innings against UT Arlington striking out eight and allowing one run. Two days later Jacquez pitched all five innings in UIW's 8-0 win, racking up five strike outs and only allowing one hit through the game.
- The Cardinals will face two new opponents this weekend in Nevada and Pittsburgh. UIW has only played Houston three times all before 2020.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
- Pitt got the 2025 season underway with a 3-2 start at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
- Saleyna Daniel was named to the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team after batting .545 over the weekend scoring three runs, hitting two doubles and a home run.
SCOUTING THE WOLF PACK
- Nevada has started the season 4-1, with their only loss coming to No. 6 UCLA.
- Hailey McLean was named Mountain Wester Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 over the weekend.
- Ainsley Berlingeri was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week. Berlingeri struck out 11 and had a no-hitter going into the final inning against Army.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- Houston has yet to lose a game, going 5-0 at the Easton Classic.
- The Cougars have scored 51 runs averaging just over 10 a game this season.
- Despite the hot start UH hasn't been perfect. Houston trailed by at least three runs in all but one of the first five games of the season.
