Dow Adds Two New Assistant Coaches to Woman’s Basketball Staff

SAN ANTONIO – Head Coach Jeff Dow announced the addition of two new assistant coaches to the women's basketball squad. Wade Whaley and Steven Oliver have joined the team for the 2024-25 season.

Whaley is coming to the 210 from Grayson College where he served as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season. His Vikings squad racked up three wins against top 25 opponents and had two players sign to NCAA Division I programs, while naming two players to the All-NTJAC squad with two others earning honorable mention.

During his two seasons at Murray State college, Whaley helped guide the Aggies to two Region II regular season championships and two Region II tournament championships, as well as two NJCAA tournament appearances. Whaley coached players that were named NJCAA Honorable Mention All-Americans, Region II Tournament MVP, first and second Team All-Region, and Newcomer of the Year, while sending 10 players to four-year programs and nine to NCAA Division II schools.

As a student assistant for West Texas A&M University, Whaley racked up an NCAA DII Sweet Sixteen appearance, two Lone Star Conference regular season championships, two Lone Star Conference tournament championships, and three NCAA DII national tournament appearances.

"We're excited about the addition of Wade Whaley to our staff," said Dow. "He gained a wealth of knowledge and experience over the past three years as an assistant at Grayson College and Murray State College which directly coordinated with the ascension of those two programs.  We're looking forward to seeing how his recruiting background and on-court acumen will help develop our roster."

Steven Oliver comes to UIW after completing his time as a Graduate Assistant for the Women's Basketball team at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. During Coach Oliver's two years as a Yellow Jacket, he spearheaded the team's travel operations, supervised the social media and marketing team, and played an integral role in recruiting, opponent preparation, and leading practices. During this time, Baldwin Wallace posted a 44-13 record, earning two National Tournament appearances, an OAC Regular Season Title, and a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2024.

Oliver also has experience as a student assistant coach for the men's basketball team at Geneva College in his hometown of Beaver Falls, PA. His roles included creating opponent scouting reports, charting practices, creating content for recruiting and social media, and leading the team's strength and conditioning.

"Steve had the opportunity to work with one of the premier Division III programs in the country for the past two years at Baldwin Wallace University.  As will be the case here, he had a variety of responsibilities and contributed heavily to the success of their program," said Dow. "I'm excited to witness firsthand the role he will have with our program and his development as a young coach."
