SAN ANTONIO – Head Coach
Jeff Dow and the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball staff welcomed Mia Ramos and Sedelia Wilson-Larkin to UIW during the early signing period.
"We're thrilled about the additions of Mia and Sedelia," said Head Coach
Jeff Dow. "We feel like Mia has the potential to be a dynamic scorer at the guard position, particularly behind the 3-point line. And we wanted to continue to add to our length and skillset on the perimeter, and with Sedelia we were able to accomplish that."
Both signees were featured in Jason Key's final ranking for the Premier Basketball Report identifying the top prospects in the state of Texas and in the Alamo City Hoops 2024 Final 40 Rankings.
"Obviously, we were impressed with their athletic and basketball ability, but we were equally impressed with their character and how well they have prepared themselves academically. We place an emphasis on any recruit's basketball potential and academic background, but we also put a premium on doing our due diligence on their character to ensure they will be a good fit for the culture of our program. We're excited about what both of these young ladies will bring to the table on the court and we're confident they will help us continue to grow our program off the court as well."
Ramos is a 5-foot-7 guard from Brandeis High School who has already eclipsed the 1,000 points mark of her high school career, while adding 236 rebounds, 192 assists and 231 steals. She was twice named to first-team All-District and the Co-Defensive MVP. Alamo City Hoops 2024 Final 40 rankings named Ramos at No. 17 and Jason Key ranked her at No. 40.
Wilson-Larkin comes from Saint Mary's Hall High School as a 6-foot forward who has totaled 986 points and 446 rebounds in only two years of playing. She earned a spot on the Team TABC All-State first team and was twice named to first team all-district. She appeared as No. 13 in the Alamo City Hoops 2025 Final 40 rankings and No. 57 in Jason Key's final rankings. During the TAPPS State Championship, she was named to the All-Tournament Team and the TAPPS All-State second team.
"We have had the opportunity over the years to see Mia and Sedelia in a variety of settings from participating with their high school and AAU teams, to attending our Elite Camps in the summer. We're extremely confident that each of them will fit in well with what we like to do offensively in terms of spacing the floor with their 3-point shooting ability and driving it on occasion. Mia has the ability to play either guard position, has deep range, and her competitiveness has always stood out to us. Sedelia has a tremendous amount of versatility to her game that should allow her to thrive in our offense, not just with her ability to stretch the floor but also with her passing. We feel like they have only scratched the surface as to the type of player they can each become. We definitely try hard to recruit the state of Texas, and the San Antonio area in particular, and each of the recruits was highly ranked as two of the top prospects in the state. They have been prepared well by both their high school coaches, and their AAU program, which will ease their transition to UIW and the Division I level. We really feel that Mia and Sedelia each have the potential to step in immediately and compete for playing time from day one."
