SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped its final home game of the season to New Orleans, 15-5, to give the Cardinals a 1-2 series loss at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
Jamey Richey led all Cardinals in hits with two on the day. Richey also led the team in RBIs with four in the loss.
The Privateers struck first in the top of the first to go up 2-0.
A solo home run in the second extended the Privateers' lead to 3-0.
After a scoreless third, New Orleans extended its lead to 5-0 on a two-run homer. Later in the inning, Richey doubled to left center to get the Cardinals on the board, 5-1.
A two-run homer in the sixth extended the Privateers' lead to 7-1. Later in the inning, the Cardinals pulled within two, scoring four runs in the inning. Richey drove in three on a bases-clearing double, and Richey later scored to bring the score to 7-5.
The Privateers drove in six runs in the seventh to bring the score to 13-5.
A solo homer in the eighth and a wild pitch in the ninth brought the final score to 15-5.
