SAN ANTONIO- The University of the Incarnate Word softball team fell to the PVAMU Panthers by a score of 2-6. This weekend (April 15-16), the Cardinals host Northwestern State for what's building to be an intense conference matchup. Game play will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night to start the night's doubleheader. On Saturday at 1 p.m. the last game of the series will take place.
UIW vs PVAMU (2-6)
The Cardinals got on the board first after Avalon Sanchez homered on the first at bat of the second inning. In her first trip up to the plate, Sanchez slammed one over the fence to tab her third home run of the year and put UIW up 1-0.
With the game tied until the sixth inning, Madison Guillen hit a sacrifice fly to score Kendall McGary for the Cardinals last run of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers felt a rush and scored four runs.
No scores came in the seventh for either team. After sweeping PVAMU in the first matchup of the season, the Panthers beat the Cardinals the second time around.

Northwestern State (20-17)
The Demons are in sixth place after the latest SLC poll was released this week. With a conference record of 6-6, the team is still in good standing to make the rapidly arriving playoffs.
Mackenzie Chaffin currently leads NSU's offense. Batting .339 in the 37 games she's played, Chaffin has been a dominant player for this team. Keely Dubois and Laney Roos have also highly contributed to the offense. Both batting over .300, combined they've had 39 hits. Not to mention, last week Roos pulled in the Hitter of the Week award after a fantastic weekend against Alabama and Portland State.
The Demons pitching staff has been strong all season. With five out the of the sixth earning Pitcher of the Week awards, the team is spotting a 3.34 era.
UIW (11-22-1)
The Cardinals are still in search of a turnaround point as conference playoffs loom.
Sophomore Ryleigh Mata still leads the team with a .321 batting average. With a total of 35 hits, Mata has a strong hold of the top spot for UIW. Starting all 34 games, it's no wonder why she was named to the SLC Preseason All- Conference team. Transfer Aaliyah White has shown her stuff in recent games. Also starting all 34 games, White has shown her dominance in left field. Making two SportsCenter type catches over the weekend, White has proven to be a great addition to the Cardinals.
