THE LAST TIME THEY MET

  • The Lumberjacks beat UIW 8-2. The overall record between the two programs is 2-16 with SFA having the upper hand.

  • Kendall McGary had one hit, one run, and one RBI in her three at bats.

  • Both Natalie Myers and Annie Gunther appeared throughout the game, pitching a total of 4.3 innings combined.

SFA (7-10)

The Lumberjacks are coming into this three-game series with a 7-10 record on the year. In the most recent games at the Cowgirl Classic, they went 1-3 on the weekend after facing Ole Miss and McNeese.

Junior Madison Nguyen is leading the team as she's started and played 16 games. Currently she's batting .327 with 18 total hits. In those, Nguyen's collected two doubles, two triples, and nine RBI's. First Team All-WAC Preseason pick Gaby Garcia has collected eight hits in her 43 at-bats. On the fielding side, Garcia has caught 43 balls for 22 outs and 19 assists, which proves how valuable she is to the team.

Pitching-wise, Alexis Telford has been the standout for the Lumberjacks. The freshman has racked in 42 strikeouts in the total 45.1 innings she's pitched. Her 3.40 era is leading the crowd of pitchers at SFA.

UIW (7-6)

After sweeping the PVAMU Panthers last weekend, the Cardinals are hungry for more. Sitting in fifth for Southland Conference standings, their 7-6 record places them in the middle of the pack.

Texas State transfer Baylee Lemons keeps UIW in the running with her team-high .368 batting average in her 38 at-bats. In the total 14 hits she's produced, Lemons has locked in two doubles, two home runs, and five RBI's. Kendall McGary has also proven to be a key factor in the Cardinals' offense. Coming off a stellar week against UTSA and PVAMU, McGary batted .556 on five hits. In addition, she collected a team-high six RBI's to add onto her total of 10 on the year.

UIW's pitching staff bounced back against Prairie View after a tough day at UTSA this past week. In the three games the Cardinals collected 20 strikeouts, allowed 18 hits and walked 14. Annie Gunther pitched a full game against Prairie View where she only allowed one run in the total 25 batters she faced. As Coach Dean hopes, the pitching staff is on the curve for a great rest of the year.
