THE LAST TIME THEY MET
TAMUCC (UIW, 0-3)
UIW is currently on an 18-game losing streak against the Islanders. In the past few matches, the Cardinals have come close but simple mistakes have caught up to them in the end.
In their last match, the Islanders held the Cardinals to only 34 kills. Annamarie Alvarez led the team with 12 as Kade Thomas added seven of her own. Impressively enough, on the defensive side, Thomas accounted for five blocks.
Receiving is where UIW faced the most problems. In total, only 33 digs were recorded against the Islanders with 55 kills. Mariela Nieto, Audrey Patton, and Natalie Kimmel led the Cardinals with six kills each.
UIW (12-11)
The Cardinals have been rolling through the second round of conference play. In the past two weeks they've picked up three wins and rose two spots on the latest Southland poll. With the busy week up ahead UIW will have a chance to keep the ball rolling.
Kimmel is still leading the conference in service aces and remains in the top 10 for total assists. The junior has been an important asset to the Cardinals and their success this season. Senior Allison Palmi has also had a big impact on UIW. Leading the team with 258 kills and a 3.07 kill to set ration, Palmi has been a consistent force on the outside.
With injuries, Coach Ording has put trust in her younger players. Getting more experience has expanded the depth of the Cardinals and will be beneficial as they head towards the end of conference.
