SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team sets off for another weekend of Southland Conference (SLC) play, facing Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday. The weekend opens with a doubleheader on Friday, April 1, at 4 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. The series concludes on Saturday, April 2, at noon.
FOLLOW THE GAME
UIW HIGHLIGHTS
- The Cardinals defeated Baylor University (6-4) for their first Power 5 win against a Texas team. Their last – and only other – victory over a Power 5 team was a 1-0 win over Kansas on March 21, 2018.
- Ryleigh Mata leads the Cardinals with a .430 batting average. She has a conference-best 43 hits, as well.
- Avalon Sanchez has a team-high 27 RBIs.
- Maddie Boldt leads the SLC with nine home runs this season.
- Ashley Trapp sets the pace for the Cardinals with 61 strikeouts, which ranks fourth in the SLC.
UIW
- The Cardinals are 11-20 overall and 2-1 in SLC action.
- UIW started SLC play with 2-1 series victory against Nicholls State University. This included a 9-1 run-ruled victory to close out the series.
SLU
- The Lady Lions are coming off a two-game sweep against Alcon State University. They opened up with a 6-0 win in their first game of the doubleheader matchup. SLU secured a 10-2 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
- This is the first SLC series for SLU.
