Box Score SAN ANTONIO – Julia Cordon led the University of the Incarnate Word softball team to a 4-3 victory against Texas Southern University (TSU) with a walk-off single to center field in the eighth inning on Tuesday evening at H-E-B Field.
 
Aaliyah Garica led the way at the plate for UIW with two hits. Five other Cardinals registered a hit on the day.
 
UIW was locked in a pitching duel that took it to extra innings. The Cardinals led the way through the first five innings after Kendall McGary reached first base on a field choice that brought in Avalon Sanchez (1-0). The Tigers were able to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning, giving them momentum.
 
Heading to the eighth frame, the Tigers struck first with a two-RBI home run to right field that pushed them ahead, 3-1. UIW took the pressure in stride heading to the bottom of the eighth inning. McGary started the offense off with a single to center field that brought in the runner placed on second. Garcia stepped up to the plate and hit another single to tie the game (3-3).
 
Sophomore batter, Codron, stepped up to the plate with the game on the line. With one strike, she put her head down and knocked an RBI single to center field to give the Cardinals a walk-off victory. UIW heads to conference play with positive momentum after defeating TSU 4-3.

UIW begins Southland Conference play when it hosts Nicholls State University for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 25, at 4 p.m. CT.
