SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team begins the 2022 season on Thursday, Feb. 10, against Cleveland State University at 5:30 p.m. CT on day one of the UIW Invitational. All games for the UIW Invitational are at H-E-B Field.
UIW hosts Cleveland State, Prairie View A&M University and the University of Wisconsin Green Bay for the 2022 UIW Invitational tournament, beginning on Thursday and lasting through Sunday, Feb. 13. The Cardinals are scheduled to play in five games over the four-day event.

This is the first year the Cardinals are led by head coach
Kimberly Dean. Dean came to UIW from Georgia Southern University where she secured her 100
th collegiate win as a head coach in the 2021 season. Assistant coaches
Hunter Bunch and
Mark Shirley also joined the UIW softball staff.
New additions to the Cardinal roster include transfer student-athletes
Aaliyah Garcia,
Alicia Lopez and
Ryleigh Mata. Garcia, a 5-5 pitcher, joined UIW from Georgia Southern University. Lopez came to UIW from Lamar University where she was named to the academic all-conference team and the Dean's List. Lopez is a sophomore catcher who will be a valuable part of the 2022 roster. Mata joined the Cardinals from Stephen F. Austin University. The sophomore utility player will help UIW on all aspects of the field this spring.
