Football Downs HCU for Record-Setting Homecoming

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team had a record-setting afternoon in its eleventh straight win at Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium as the Cardinals defeated the Houston Christian University (HCU) Huskies 73-20 during homecoming.

The Cardinals scored an impressive 49 points in the second for the most points scored in a quarter in UIW football program history.
Lindsey Scott Jr. led the charge with seven touchdowns to surpass the season touchdowns responsible for record, totaling 51 through 11 games. This is the second game this season Scott has tied the single-game record with seven touchdowns in the first half alone. Darion Chafin and Brandon Porter scored two touchdowns each. The Cardinals put up 520 total yards of offense on the day.

Touchdowns came from offense, defense and special teams as the Cardinals attacked the Huskies from all angles. Linebacker
Kelechi Anyalebechi returned one of UIW's three interceptions for a touchdown, his second interception in two games. Donte Thompson and Shawn Holton each snagged an interception over HCU. Micahh Smith blocked the Huskies' punt in the second quarter as Chance Trentman-Rosas scored for the Cardinals.

Defensively,
Sam Latham finished with a career-high two sacks. Holton added 11 total tackles to go with his interception.

Freshman,
Kole Wilson once again set a program record with the most punt return yards (257) after his only return of the game for 37 yards.

HCU started off the game driving down the field for an early field goal and forcing a UIW three and out. On the following drive, the Cardinal offense scored their first points of the game on a 19-yard pass from Scott to
Porter.

Anyalebechi secured his second interception in two games at HCU's 22-yard line before taking it home for UIW's second score, the Cardinals finished out the quarter up, 21-3.

The Cardinals dominated the second quarter forcing four turnovers including two interceptions, a sack-fumble, and a blocked punt for a touchdown. Scott threw five touchdowns bringing his total for the half to seven to put UIW up 70-6 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Huskies scored on their first two drives however, it proved to be too little too late, as the Cardinals won by a final score of 73-20.
