SAN ANTONIO- The University of the Incarnate Word women's fencing team brings in Viktoria Ahaus to compete in the spring of the 2022-23 season. The incoming junior will be transferring from the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico.
Coming all the way from Lemgo, Germany, Ahaus is thrilled to join the Cardinals this season. "I decided to attend UIW because of the great academic opportunities and the Division I fencing program. I have met and heard a lot about Coach Moreau before and became aware of his great program at Incarnate Word. The school itself seems very friendly and welcoming" Ahaus said. The future Cardinal is also excited about the connection UIW has to its faith community. "I am also a Catholic and my faith is important to me, which is why I believe Incarnate Word is the perfect fit for me."
The right-handed epee has found success early on and hopes to continue it here at Incarnate Word. She is a current four-time participant of the Gold Medal Regional Championships and most recently competed for the Women Under 20 Team and Individual division. Viktoria states that early on her participation in the Modern Pentathlon is what got her into fencing. "I fell in love with fencing and competed in fencing and pentathlon competitions at the same time. Fencing is my favorite pentathlon discipline now," said Ahaus.
The junior will be coming to Incarnate Word as a biology major to further her pursuit of becoming a doctor. She will begin training with the Cardinals as they start their path to the Spring 2023 season.
