SAN ANTONIO – Sophomore
Sasha Rebchunovska of the University of the Incarnate Word women's fencing team was named All-American Honorable Mention by the United States Fencing Coaches Association for 2020. In addition to the honorable mention, Rebchunovska was named First Team West Region for the season.
"It's unfortunate that the 2020 National Collegiate Fencing Championships had to be canceled," said head coach
John Moreau. "Sasha fenced extremely well the entire dual meet season and in my opinion was ready for a great competition at Nationals."
"I'm so proud of her accomplishments. She also has the distinction of being on the First Team West Region. This is the first year that Regional Teams have been named by the USFCA, so Sasha is part of history."
Rebchunovska was one of 24 women foilists in the U.S. to qualify for the 2020 NCAA Collegiate Fencing Championships in Detroit Michigan, before the competition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Kiev, Ukraine native was set to make her second career appearance at the NCAA Championships. During her freshman campaign, Rebchunovska placed second at the NCAA Regional Meet, earning all-conference and punching her ticket to the 2019 NCAA Championships.
