SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team scored all 56 of its points in the first half during the 56-17 win over Lamar Saturday afternoon at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
Lindsey Scott Jr. passed for 401 yards and seven total touchdowns to five different receivers tying the record for most touchdown passes in a game at UIW.
The Cardinal offense led by Scott began the game with two drives spanning over 70 yards taking only seven plays to get into the endzone. The UIW defense didn't allow a single first down through the first quarter and the Cardinals led 35-0, setting a school record for most points scored in a quarter.
To start off the second, Lamar controlled the clock going on a nearly eight-minute drive which resulted in a field goal, bringing the score to 35-3.
UIW responded in 36 seconds driving 80 yards for a touchdown pass to
Brandon Porter. After a quick 3-and-out by the defense, the Cardinals took over at the 23-yard line and went in for the score extending the lead to 49-3.
At the end of the second quarter, the Cardinals traded scores going into the half with 56-10 on the scoreboard.
Lamar scored the only touchdown of the half for either team off a one-yard run from running back RJ Carver to bring the score to its final 56-17 as UIW took the game.
