NATCHITOCHES, LA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team battled hard, but ultimately the Cardinals dropped a 79-70 decision against Northwestern State University (NSU) on Thursday evening at Prather Coliseum.
For the second game in a row,
Charlie Yoder led the Cardinal offense with 25 points.
Josh Morgan followed with a big second-half performance, scoring 14 of his 16 points after halftime.
The Demons kept the lead through the entire first half.
Johnny Hughes III knocked down a pair of free throws to bring the Cardinals within one point, 15-14, for the closest score of the half. Yoder led the Cardinals before the break, ending with an and-one opportunity to bring the score to 23-21 in favor of the Demons. UIW headed into the locker room trailing NSU by four, 30-26.
Morgan came out of the break on fire, hitting three 3-pointers to give the Cardinals their first advantage of the game (41-40). Morgan went on to lead UIW through the entire second half.
Bradley Akhile followed suit, draining a three from the top of the key to put the Cardinals ahead, 46-43. Later in the half, the Demons went on their own scoring run to take back the advantage on their way to securing the victory, 79-70.

The Cardinals stay in Louisiana as they head to Hammond to face the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana University on Saturday, Jan. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
