Cardinals Look to Secure Southland Conference Tournament Berth

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team heads east for a three-game series against Southland Conference foe, Sam Houston. The Cardinals look to secure one of the last two spots in the Southland Conference Tournament. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. (CT) on Friday.

BATTER UP

As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .242 while limiting opponents to a .267 batting average.
Three UIW starters are hitting above .275; Jazmine Torres (.316), Maddie Boldt (.284), and Kendall McGary (.276).
Torres has 25 hits, four doubles, one triple and 16 RBIs.

IN THE CIRCLE

Annie Gunther leads the Cardinals with a 2.69 ERA and has thrown 11 complete games. Overall, she has a 7-9 record with 66 strikeouts.
Ashley Trapp has also contributed significant innings for the Cardinals. Trapp has a 6-7 record with seven complete games and also has 72 strikeouts.

SCOUTING SAM HOUSTON

The Bearkats are 15-29 overall with an 11-13 record in the Southland Conference this season.
Their last outing was against Stephen F. Austin, where they lost the three-game series, 0-3.
SHSU has four student-athletes hitting above .250, Sheridan Fisher who has 34 hits and a .296 batting average. She has ten RBIs, two doubles and four stolen bases.
