SAN ANTONIO --  The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team bid farewell to eight on Senior Day with a 6-4 win against Lamar on Friday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B. 

UIW quickly found its offense with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Landon Etzel hit a leadoff single back up the middle and Lee Thomas reached on an infield single to put runners on, with one out for Ryan Flores to drive in Etzel with the third Cardinal single of the inning. 

After Lamar tied the game in the third inning, the home Cardinals put up three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to extend their lead. 

Wilson Ehrhardt lead off with a walk as Flores and Ron Brown hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Chance Medina was hit by a pitch driving in Ehrhardt. Zach Limas drove in two with a single just over the third baseman into left field to push out to a 4-1 lead. 

In the fifth inning, Ehrhardt took over as the team home-run leader with a solo shot over the left-field wall to make it a 5-2 game. 

The Cardinals loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning before tacking on an insurance run as Limas scored on a passed ball for a 6-3 advantage. 

Lamar pushed across two more runs in the sixth and ninth innings, but it was not enough as UIW got back in the win column and a step closer to clinching a spot in the postseason. 

Michael Garza earned his sixth save of the season throwing the final three innings with four strikeouts. Aaron Celestino went a season-high six innings to get the win on the mound. 

ON DECK
UIW and Lamar complete the series and the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. with playoff implications still on the line.
