SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball head coach, Carson Cunningham, announced the signing of 6-9, 240 pound center, Kevin Schutte for the 2021-22 season.
Schutte, a grad transfer, previously played three seasons at Hofstra before signing with the Cardinals. He appeared in 22 games for Hofstra a season ago, averaging just under two points per game. He grabbed 60 rebounds and accounted for 11 blocks for the Pride in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season.
"We are delighted to call Kevin a Cardinal. He is a savvy, college vet by way of the Netherlands. At 240 pounds, he has considerable strength and a penchant for rebounds. He also boasts national team experience," Coach Cunningham said.
The Zwolle, Netherlands native played in 34 games for Hofstra during the 2018-19 campaign where he averaged 1.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Prior to Hofstra, Schutte played soccer and basketball at CSE Zwolle and was a member of the U18, U20 and U24 Dutch National Teams. Schutte helped his U20 team to back-to-back Dutch Cup Championships in 2016 and 2017.
Schutte is the son of Gert-Poul Schutte and Lucy Helliger and has two siblings, Jason and Veronique Schutte. He plans to pursue a Master's degree in marketing.
