Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball was blanked, 14-0, in seven innings at SFA on Thursday, April 1, to open the four-game set at Jaycee's Field.
Landon Etzel led off the first inning with a single up the middle on the first pitch of the game but it was all UIW could do as Angelo Gennari settled in for the seven-inning complete game.
The Lumberjacks batted around in the home half of the first inning and scored seven runs on five hits. Cameron Crawford walked to start the inning and advanced to second on a groundout in the next at-bat. Skylar Black hit an RBI double down the right-field line and another walk led to another SFA RBI double. Sean Moore reached on an error to the third baseman that scored two and Kanin Dodge's three-run home run made it 7-0 before Carson Rollins got a groundout and a strikeout to end the SFA first as the Cardinals were forced to play from behind early.
SFA (9-12, 7-6 SLC) added three more in the third inning and the 'Jacks added two more in the sixth inning for the 14-0 lead.
Looking to extend the game and string some runs on the board in the top of the seventh, the Cardinals (10-8, 7-5 SLC) got two runners on base with a walk by Noah Brewer and Drew Minter. Shaughn Kelly struck out looking for the first out and Zach Limas fouled out to bring Grant Smith to the plate. Smith dug in and battled but struck out to end the game.
