SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team has set its schedule for the 2021 season, announced head coach Joe DiPietro on Friday. 
 
COACH DiPIETRO SAYS 
"I'm excited about our schedule this year. We have a lot of home games as well as stepping up in competition against teams like Arizona State. Hopefully we'll have a much better Southland Conference result this year as well. The team can't wait to get started!" 
 
NOTABLES 

• The Cardinals are coming off season that only saw 24 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  
• UIW won eight games in 2020, including wins against Texas Southern, North Dakota and Grambling State. 
• The 2021 season features 52 contests with 27 Southland Conference matchups against 9 opponents and 25 non-conference games against 9 opponents. 
• The Cardinals host four weekends of league action: Stephen F. Austin, Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and McNeese. 
• UIW travels to Nicholls, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Abilene Christian, and Sam Houston to round out conference play. 

 
The 2021 Southland Conference Softball Tournament will be held May 11-14, at North Oak Park in Hammond, Louisiana. On Jan. 13, the conference reinstated full postseason participation for upcoming 2020-21 league championship events, including expanding the softball tournament field back to the top eight schools.
