SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word softball welcomes Dominique Guerra, Victoria Altamirano and Sammie Portillo to the Cardinal family.
Dominique Guerra
Guerra, a San Antonio native, will come to UIW from McCollum High School. Guerra received UIL All-District for the 2020 season. Guerra is a multiple sport athlete who received All-District honors, two seasons in a row for volleyball.
"Dom's work ethic and passion for the game is contagious. She can play multiple positions at the next level and her speed will automatically help us be a threat on the bases," said head coach
Kimberly Dean.
Victoria Altamirano
Altamirano comes to UIW from Los Fresnos, Texas where she is a two-year varsity softball player at Los Fresnos High School.
"Vic's confidence and approach to the game will be a much-needed addition to our locker room. She will add value to not only our offensive attack but also to our outfield," said Dean.
Sammie Portillo
Portillo joins UIW from Sandra Day O'Connor High School where she is a three-year varsity student-athlete. Portillo joins the Cardinals with a .348 batting average, .477 on base percentage, 24 total hits and 26 RBIs through her 42 varsity games.
"We were so lucky to find Sammie. She's got a great combination of Velo and movement. She will be a great addition to our staff, and we love her demeanor under pressure," said Dean.
The Cardinals begin their 2021-22 season at home on the HEB Field as they host Green Bay, Cleveland St. and Prairie View A&M for their weekend series in February.
