Softball hosts North Texas in Monday afternoon tilt

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team hosts North Texas on Monday at 4 p.m. (CT) at H-E-B Field.

BATTER UP
  • As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .284 while limiting opponents to a .268 batting average.
  • Five UIW starters are hitting above .300: Abby Frank (.340), Kendall McGary (.333), Hailey Goins (.309), Teanna Lucio (.309) and Renee Hoffman (.304).
  • McGary leads the team with 23 hits, two of which were doubles, and 18 runs; she has also been walked 10 times to contribute to a .427 on-base percentage.

TO BE FRANK
  • Abby Frank has a team-high .340 batting average.
  • She has 16 hits in 47 at-bats, including a double and a conference-leading three triples.
  • Frank has been walked 14 times and hit by pitch six times; she leads the Cardinals and is second in the conference with a .537 on-base percentage.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Annie Gunther leads the Cardinals' starters with a 3.44 ERA. She has racked up 27 strikeouts in 12 appearances this season.
  • Renee Hoffman has a 3-4 record in 10 appearances. She also has six starts, three of which were complete games. Hoffman has held opponents to a .246 batting average and has recorded 17 strikeouts.
  • Madison Floyd leads the team with 32 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched. She holds a 3-2 record in 12 appearances, including seven starts.

HISTORY VS NORTH TEXAS 
  • North Texas holds a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series against UIW.
  • The teams faced off on March 15, 2016, as the Cardinals fell to the Mean Green, 10-2.
 
SCOUTING THE MEAN GREEN
  • The Mean Green are 18-5 overall after an 11-3 win over UTSA on Sunday.
  • North Texas leads C-USA with a 3.45 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • Katie Clark leads North Texas with a .342 batting average, including 25 hits, 18 runs and three home runs.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals head to Nacogdoches, Texas, to face Stephen F. Austin for a three-game conference series on Friday-Saturday. The games are set for Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and Saturday at 12 p.m., at SFA Softball Field.
