Softball opens SLC action at Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team hits the road this weekend, heading to Conway, Arkansas, to open Southland Conference play against Central Arkansas in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday. First pitch of game one is set for Friday at 4 p.m. (CT) at Farris Field. 

THE GAMES
Friday, March 6, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m.

BATTER UP
  • As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .284 while limiting opponents to a .268 batting average.
  • Five UIW starters are hitting above .300: Abby Frank (.381), Kendall McGary (.344), Hailey Goins (.333), Teanna Lucio (.313) and Renee Hoffman (.313).
  • McGary leads the team with 21 hits, two of which were doubles, and 18 runs; she has also been walked nine times to contribute to a .438 on-base percentage.

TO BE FRANK
  • Abby Frank has a team-high .381 batting average.
  • She has 16 hits in 42 at-bats, including a double and a conference-leading three triples.
  • Frank has been walked 12 times and hit by pitch five times; she leads the Cardinals and is second in the conference with a .559 on-base percentage.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Renee Hoffman leads the Cardinals with a 2.60 ERA and has recorded 17 strikeouts from the circle. Overall, she has a 3-3 record in nine appearances. She also has five starts, three of which were complete games.
  • Annie Gunther has racked up 26 strikeouts this season. Gunther has allowed 34 runs, with 18 being earned, for a 2.72 ERA.
  • Madison Floyd leads the team with 28 strikeouts.

HISTORY VS CENTRAL ARKANSAS
  • UIW has a 4-10 record against Central Arkansas in the all-time series.
  • The teams last faced off on March 22-23, 2019, when the Bears swept the Cardinals in a three-game set.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARS
  • The Bears are 13-9 overall after an 8-0 loss against Ole Miss on Tuesday.
  • Central Arkansas leads the conference with eight shutouts.
  • Kayla Crutchmer leads the Bears with a .420 batting average, including 29 hits, 16 runs, eight RBI and three doubles.

UP NEXT
UIW returns home, hosting North Texas on Monday at 4 p.m. at H-E-B Field.
