SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team hosts its second tournament of the young season, the Cardinal Invitational, which starts Friday morning and runs through Sunday afternoon. The teams competing in the event are Cleveland State, Delaware, Fairleigh Dickinson and Grambling State.

CAN'T STOP, WON'T STOP GOINS
Junior
Hailey Goins had an outstanding opening weekend for the Cardinals in the H-E-B Classic as she batted .400 in five games. The junior finished with six hits, two of those being doubles and three RBI. She also turned two double plays, including a diving double play that appeared on the NCAA Softball highlights.
KEEP CALM AND FLOYD ON
Outstanding freshman pitcher,
Madison Floyd, earned her first two collegiate victories in the H-E-B Classic last weekend. She finished 2-0 with a 3.07 ERA on the week. The freshman pitched a complete game shutout against North Dakota, allowing just two hits in the shortened five-inning game.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
- Cleveland State – Finished 2019 with a record of 15-34 overall and 8-16 in the Horizon League. Kelly Hysong is their lone returning all-conference player.
- Delaware – The Blue Hens are currently 4-1 on the season after finishing last season with a record of 22-29 overall and a 7-14 record in the Colonial. Hanna Garber made the All-CAA second team last year as a freshman.
- Fairleigh Dickinson– The Knights ended the 2019 campaign with a 14-35 record as they finished 4-10 in the Northeast Conference.
- Grambling State – The Tigers finished 16-23 and 4-12 in the SWAC last season. Sophomore Rikkelle Miller was picked as a preseason first team all performer in the conference.
