SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word softball head coach
Joe DiPietro announced the signing of three new student-athletes to join the team next season. Chase Cotter, Lauren Olivarri, and Madi Mitchell are set to join the Cardinals in the fall of 2021.
HEAR FROM HEAD COACH DIPIETRO:
"I'm really excited to add Madi, Chase and Lauren to our UIW softball family! They are all very talented players who will bolster an already solid team. They all possess a toughness that will allow them to come in and compete right away."
Chase Cotter | 5-8 | OF/3B
Cotter attends Akins High School in Austin. She is a three-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, softball, and track and field. She won the Akins HS Eagle Heart Award in 2019 and has been a captain on the softball team since 2019. She plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice.
Head Coach Joe DiPietro on Cotter:
"Chase caught my attention at one of our UIW camps showcasing her arm strength. She has an above-average arm and has a lot of speed to track down balls in the outfield. Chase hits from the left side and has the ability to put a bunt down or swing away with power."
Madi Mitchell | 5-2 | 2B/OF
Mitchell attends Waller High School. Her team was district champion in 2019, and she made the academic all-district team in 2020. She plans to pursue a criminal justice degree.
Head Coach Joe DiPietro on Mitchell:
"Madi may not be a player that's tall in stature, but she has an attitude about her that she will never back down. We need players with her toughness and demeanor. Madi has the ability to play either middle infield or the outfield and has a lot of speed. Madi hits from the left side of the plate and handles the bat very well."
Lauren Olivarri | 5-6 | SS/2B
Olivarri attends Business Careers High School. She earned second team all-district in 2018 and 2019. She chose UIW for the feeling of "Home" the second that she walked onto campus. She plans to pursue an occupational therapy degree.
Head Coach Joe DiPietro on Olivarri:
"Lauren is a shortstop/second baseman that has great range and a very strong arm. Lauren will absolutely make our infield better with her play making skills. I'm excited to see her work with our coaches to help with her transition to the college game."
