SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word softball team is set to take on Texas A&M- Corpus Christi in the season-concluding series starting with a doubleheader that begins Friday at 1 p.m. (CT) and finishing with a noon matchup Saturday.

THE OPENING PITCH
The Cardinals (6-40, 2-22 SLC) are working on a two-game winning streak after sweeping the doubleheader against Texas Southern on Tuesday, while the Islanders (8-41, 3-21 SLC) have lost six straight and 10 out of their last 11 games.
HOPE'S HEATING UP
- Senior first baseman Hope Sobolewski has been a regular on the base paths of late, reaching base in eight of the last 10 games and recording at least on hit in six of the last eight.
- She leads the team with nine multiple hit games (including two 4-hit games) and five multi-RBI games
- Sobolewski is putting together a great senior campaign, leading all qualified hitters on the team in batting average (.274) slugging percentage (.487) on-base percentage (.336), doubles (five) and home runs (six).
TWO-WIN TUESDAY
- Freshman pitcher Renee Hoffman earned a pair of victories in the same day in Tuesday's doubleheader against Texas Southern, tripling her win total for the season.
- Hoffman got the start in the first game of the afternoon and pitched a complete game shutout, the first of her career. She allowed just five hits and struck out one batter.
- She pitched two innings in relief in the second game of the day, allowing just two hits and two runs as she staved off the Tigers to complete the Cardinals' comeback victory.
- Hoffman has surrendered three or fewer runs in six consecutive starts and eight out of the last nine. In her last seven appearances, she has a 3.96 ERA with seven strikeouts.
ANGEL'S APRIL
- Senior shortstop Angel Villanueva put together a strong month in April, batting .245/.361/.501 with two doubles, three home runs, four walks, 11 RBIs and seven runs scored.
- Villanueva is tied for second on the team in home runs (4) and third on the team in RBIs (13).
- The senior leads the team in stolen bases with 11.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Kennedy Johnson is one of the Islanders' top hitters, entering the weekend with a .286 batting average, seven doubles, a triple and 19 RBIs. Kandace Johnson leads TAMU-CC with 122.0 innings pitched, racking up seven wins, 65 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .306.
