SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team didn't have the offense to compete tonight as the Cardinals lost to HBU, 67-52, Wednesday night in the McDermott Center.
NOTABLES
- Junior forward Alexis Henry led the team with a career-high 12 points.
- She finished the game with career-highs in free-throws attempted and made (6-6), blocks (two) and tied her career high with three assists in the loss.
- Redshirt senior Gabbi Bowie delivered 11 points, five assists and four rebounds in her final game at the McDermott Center.
- She made two threes in the game, extending her career-best streak to nine consecutive games with a made three.
- It was her third game of the season with at least 10 points and five assists, she had never done so in a game prior to this season.
- Junior guard Imani Robinson secured a season-best 11 rebounds to lead the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
QTR 1 (12-15): Both teams got off to slow starts shooting the ball with UIW going the first five minutes without a field goal. The Cardinals ended up making four of their next eight shots in the quarter to cut the gap to 12-13, but ultimately were down three points by the end of the frame.
A. Henry led the team with four points.
QTR 2 (23-33): The Cardinals still couldn't get the lid off the basket in the second frame, allowing HBU to grow its lead to 10 points, 17-27 with 4:49 left to play. UIW brought the lead down to six off one of two made threes in the game by sophomore forward
Olivia Noah, but the Huskies ended up leading by 10, once again at the end of the half.
Noah led the team with three points in the quarter,
Robinson delivered four rebounds as well.
QTR 3 (36-55): HBU smelled blood and grew its lead to 17 points less than two minutes into the second half. The Cardinals got six points from junior forward
Lunden Henry but couldn't match the Huskies offensive output.
QTR 4 (52-67): The Cardinals never could bring the game to single-digits again. HBU sweeps the season series, 2-0.
