Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cardinals fall to Huskies in another high-scoring game

HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team scored more than 100 points for the first time since  the 2014-15 season on Wednesday, but foul trouble beckoned -- helping Houston Baptist University prevail, 118-111, in a Southland Conference game at Sharp Gymnasium on the HBU campus.

The Cardinals shot 67.8 percent from the floor, a season high. Christian Peevy, with 29 points, was one of six Cardinals who scored in double figures. But fouls early in the contest limited UIW's defensive options. In the second half, the Cardinals saw three players foul out and another playing with four fouls late in the game. Only eight players were available for UIW.

In a game that featured 20 lead changes and 13 tie scores, UIW held HBU's lead to four points as late as the 8:38 mark of the second half. Then the Huskies went on an 11-1 run during the next two minutes to take a 14-point lead, 105-91. Nevertheless, the Cardinals fought back, closing the margin to five points, 116-111, with 49 seconds remaining.

The loss dropped UIW to 6-24 overall and 1-16 in SLC play. HBU is now 12-16 and 8-9.
