THE OPENING PITCH
The Cardinals swept the Tigers when the two teams met in Houston last year and are looking for similar results as they take the field at home for the first time this season.

RENEE'S GEM
  • In her most recent game against Binghamton, freshman pitcher Renee Hoffman tossed a complete game three-hitter, surrendering no earned runs or walks, while striking out a pair of Bearcats.
  • This was Hoffman's second game where she didn't walk a single batter through six innings and her fifth complete game.
  • If her standout showing in the circle wasn't enough, Hoffman also picked up a base hit in the same game.
SOBO-SHOT
  • Senior outfielder Hope Sobolewski hit a solo blast in the top of the sixth inning against Furman last weekend at the Clearwater Parks and Recreation Invitational.
  • Sobolewski went 2-3 on the day, adding a double to go with her home run, RBI and two runs scored in what was her best performance of the season.
  • This was Sobolewski's first multi-hit game of the year after notching nine multi-hit games a season ago, tied for the team's most.
VICIOUS VILLANUEVA
  • After batting in the leadoff spot for a substantial portion of the young season, Angel Villanueva saw some action in the middle of the order this weekend and responded with a home run against Furman.
  • The senior is now tied for first on the team in home runs and doubles, and leads the team in stolen bases and walks.
  • After last weekend, she's now reached base safely in six out of the last nine games.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Tigers have lost five consecutive games by a combined 38 runs. Chelsea Baxter has pitched 22.1 innings, including a complete game shutout of Texas A&M Corpus-Christi. Junior outfielder Kelsey Riley is batting .333 over the last four games with two walks and a stolen base. TSU went 24-18-1 a season ago.
