FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In a game that almost got snowed out due to heavy snowfall in the Fort Collins area, the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell to Colorado state 75-47, on Tuesday night in Moby Arena.
Cardinals outshot the Rams from the field 59-51, but it was the Rams' 14 threes that powered them to victory. It was most threes conceded by the Cardinals this season as they've only allowed an average of four per game prior to tonight.
UIW got off to a strong start in the first half, fueled by
Brittney Stafford who knocked down a three from beyond the arc and
Alexis Henry who was finished perfect from the field, making all three of her attempts.
The Cardinals took care of the ball not conceding any turnovers in the half, a season best. Colorado State however, held the lead 34-26 going into the break.
In an uncharacteristic turn of events for the Cardinals, following a solid first half, they allowed the Rams to go on a 7-0 run while holding the Cardinals to a seven-minute scoring drought.
UIW started the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run and put up 19 points in the fourth quarter. UIW outscored Colorado State 19-17 in the final frame but it was not enough as they ran out of time.
NOTABLES:
- Cardinals were led by Victoria Jackson's 11 points, where she had a career high 15 FGA, 4 FGM and two 3-pointers made.
- UIW's 26 points scored in the first half was the most since their 43 points in two quarters against Schreiner.
- Cardinals conceded no turnovers in the first half, a season best, while picking up two steals.
- Stafford made a career high 3 threes, leading the game in the first half. Stafford also shot a career-high 8 FGA.
