SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team head coach Jeff Dow announced the signing of six new players to join the squad next season.
Joining the Cardinals are Brenna Perez, Myra Bell, Destiny Terrell, Jaaucklyn Moore, Hanna Wheeler and Kamryn Gibson. Perez and Bell hail from the San Antonio area.
"We're excited about the overall depth of this recruiting class," said Dow. "Losing eight players off of this year's team is certainly significant so it was critical in this early signing period that we sign a deep class that complements each other and has the potential to step in immediately and compete for playing time. We're confident that each of them will fit in with what we like to do offensively in terms of playing essentially with four guards and one forward."

Brenna Perez | 6'0"| Forward:
Perez attends Veterans Memorial High School. In 2018 she was part of an undefeated 27-4A District Champion that went on to be a 4A state finalist team. She averaged 10 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field.
Dow on Perez:
"Brenna has experience playing with two esteemed programs as a player for Tina Camacho of Veterans Memorial High School as well as Ray Caldwell's San Antonio's Finest club program. We envision Brenna being a high motor, versatile player for us playing both at the high post and on the perimeter. Being left-handed combined with her skill set and work ethic, Brenna is going to provide us with some additional options offensively for years to come."

Myra Bell | 5'10" | Guard:
Bell attends Taft High School in San Antonio. As a junior Bell averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds 1 assist, 2.6 steals while shooting 37% from the field. As a sophomore she averaged 10.4 points, grabbing 6.2 rebounds, 4.0 defensive rebounds, 2.1 assists and steals while shooting 44 percent from the field.
Dow on Bell:
"We're excited about the upside that Myra showed this summer in AAU competition as a member of the local B.I.A.H. organization directed by Jarrett Turner. We love the length that she possesses and what that could mean potentially on defense for us, plus she has the ability to score at all three levels. It's going to be exciting to see what she does this year for Coach Kelli Goble and the Taft High School program."

Hanna Wheeler | 5'6" | Guard:
Wheeler attends Cedar Park High School. As a junior she was named to District 17-5A First Team All-District as well as Academic All-District. Wheeler averaged 8.1 points, 6.7 assists, 3.8 steals and 3.2 rebounds per game during the 2018 season.
Dow on Wheeler:
"Hanna is a true point guard in every sense of the word. She's been well-coached and prepared to play at the next level by Donny Ott at Cedar Park High School and gained invaluable experience playing for the Cy-Fair Premier Austin program. Hanna definitely has a high motor combined with a terrific feel for the game and an extremely high basketball IQ."

Jaaucklyn Moore | 5'9" | Guard:
Moore attends Round Rock High School. The senior earned First Team All-District and a Varsity MVP nod while averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as a junior. While she was a sophomore she was named the Varsity MVP, while earning District Newcomer of the Year and a Fist Team All- District nod. The point guard boasts a 4.0 GPA earned Academic All-District in 2018 and 2019.
Dow on Moore:
"In watching her play this past spring and summer for Fonzell Martin's highly regarded Austin Elite program we saw in Jaaucklyn someone who had the ability to be a combo guard in our system. We liked her ability to get in the paint, make plays and score off the dribble. And with her length and quickness she potentially could be a very good defender on the perimeter. We look forward to seeing her take on a leadership role for Round Rock High School this season."

Kamryn Gibson | 5'9" | Guard:
Gibson attends Braswell High School. The senior earned District Honorable Mention as a sophomore and most recently Defensive MVP as a junior, while also earning student-athlete Academic All-District for her work in the classroom.
Dow on Gibson:
"Kamryn is someone we may have seen play more than any other recruit over the course of the NCAA spring and summer evaluation periods as a member of the AD Elite organization. She is a high energy wing with an emerging offensive game that initially can make her mark for us as a lockdown perimeter defender. She has been instrumental in helping Lisa Williams resurrect the Braswell High School girls basketball program."

Destiny Terrell | 5'9" | Guard:
Terrell plays for Mansfield Summit High School. As a freshman she earned Newcomer of the Year (2016-17), while earning Offensive MVP for her district as a sophomore and made First Team All- District as a junior. She averages 13.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
Dow on Terrell:
"Destiny is an extremely athletic wing but versatile enough that she could probably play as a stretch 4 if needed. She has the ability to knock down 3's, make plays off the bounce and with her length and athleticism she could become an elite defender. She had a successful run as a member of the ProSkills Girls Basketball organization and is poised to have a tremendous senior year for Amy Gillum and the Mansfield Summit High School program."
