Aday Wins Metroplex Collegiate Open

FLOWER MOUND, Texas—University of the Incarnate Word golfer Gracie Aday shot a one-under-par 71 in Thursday's final round to win the Metroplex Collegiate Open, hosted by Bridlewood Country Club. The college junior-to-be, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, finished five strokes ahead of her nearest competition.

Aday shot a combined 220 over 54 holes, four strokes over par.

She entered the final round of the two-day competition tied for the lead with Hannah Haltom of Texarkana, Texas. Each had a score of 149 after 36 holes.

But on Thursday, on the strength of five birdies over the last 18 holes, Aday gained ground against the fading competition.

"I've been working really hard this summer and it paid off this tournament," Aday said. "I'm really looking forward to this new season because of our new coach and a couple new players. I plan to keep improving my game this summer and this next season."

Aday's UIW coach, Allison Howarth, was pleased. "Overall, it's a great win for Gracie. She's been working on her short game a lot this summer and it really showed this week. It's great momentum going into the fall season and hopefully we can capitalize on all the hard work that has been put in this summer."
