ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Forward
Marjan Gamsjager of the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team has been named to the Western Athletic Conference all-academic team for freshmen and transfers, the league announced Tuesday.
Gamsjäger, a graduate student from Linz, Austria, has a 3.81 cumulative GPA in the university's Master of Science program, specializing in sports management. On the pitch in 2017, he started in all 14 matches he appeared in with nearly 1200 minutes played. He led the Cardinals with three goals, coming against Central Arkansas, No. 18 Air Force, and UT-Rio Grande Valley. The tally against UCA was the game winner. His six points were tied for the team lead with
Joe Brown. At the conclusion of the season, Gamsjäger earned honorable mention All-WAC honors.

William Redmann, who earned recognition last November at the conclusion of the season.
"It's a fantastic achievement that eight of our guys have been awarded for their efforts not only on the soccer field but in the classroom, too," said head coach
Vince Martinez. As student-athletes, the emphasis is always on being a student first with the honor of representing the school a reward of that effort. We hope to continue striving for more success in the classroom as well as the field with this season's class."
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
