THE CARDINALS
The Cardinals (5-7) are coming off of a 63-57 loss to the University of Illinois at Chicago on Monday night in the Windy City. UIW stormed out to a 9-3 lead, allowed UIC to take a 15- point halftime lead, and then rallied in the last few minutes to cut the Flames' final margin to six points.
Senior
Charles Brown III led UIW with 14 points. Freshman
Dwight Murray Jr., making his fourth consecutive start, scored 13. Another Cardinal freshman, Chicagoan
Morgan Taylor, scored 11.
UIW was without the services of its leading scorer, sophomore
Christian Peevy, who sustained an injury in the LSU game on Nov. 9. Peevy had scored in double digits in each of his last four games and was hitting nearly six of ten shots from the field (56.6 percent) for the season. Peevy is also one of college basketball's deadliest free throw shooters, ranking 20
th among all Division I competitors from behind the charity stripe with a 90.8 percent success rate.
In addition, the Cardinals suffered from the loss of starting guard
Cody Graham, a sophomore, who was injured in practice prior to the LSU game. All told, six of UIW's 15 roster players were unable to participate on Monday due to injury.
THE BLUE DEMONS
DePaul, which plays in the Big East Conference, enters the game with an 7-2 record, having defeated UIC, 90-70, on Friday night.
AFTERWARD
The Cardinals will enjoy a holiday break from competition. UIW commences its Southland Conference schedule on Jan. 2 with a home game against McNeese.
