COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's swimming team concluded the final races of the Art Adamson Invitational on Friday evening, coming out in fifth place overall with 261 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wednesday
The first day of competition opened with
Vladyslav Chumak securing an A Final swim later in the day for 500 Freestyle, going 4:27.98 in prelims. The senior from Ukraine performed in excellent tapered form, snagging eighth in A Finals with a time of 4:29.07.
Freshman
Oscar Cardenas took sixth in the B Finals for the same race, touching in 4:33.59.
For 50 Free,
Carter Wallace tallied UIW points by taking fourth in the B Finals, going 20.53.
Thursday
UIW's A relay took 12th in the 200 Medley relay, with upperclassmen
Aaron Moran, Clayton Taylor,
Bryce Kuchan and
Carter Wallace finishing with a time of 1:32.28. This time was over a full second faster than their last time out against Trinity (Oct.27).
Hector Ruvalcaba Cruz, a member of the Mexican National team, put in work for UIW in the 400 IM A Finals, racking up major points (16) for the team with a solid third-place podium finish with a time of 3:51.69. This was three seconds faster than his prelim swim, helping him move up from fifth to the podium. Cardinal
Beau Fusilier touched third in the B Final for 400 IM with a time of 3:57.49.
Bryce Kuchan finished second in the B Final for 100 Butterfly, going 48.62.
Vladyslav Chumak showed out yet again for the Cardinals, earning points with a sixth place A Finals 200 Free swim. Chumak finished with a time of 1:38.68.
Leonardo Sanchez also represented UIW in the B Finals for the same event, taking fourth with a finals time of 1:39.87.
Aaron Moran bettered his preliminary time for 100 Back in the evening's B Final and finished fourth with a time of 49.54, just 0.37 seconds after the third-place finisher.
Thursday's competition day ended with the 800 Free Relay, with UIW's Ruvalcaba Cruz, Fusilier, Sanchez and Chumak finishing just after LSU's squad to take fourth in 6:37.75.
Friday
Moran and Chumak battled it out in the B Finals for 200 Back, and their finishing times were within 0.5 milliseconds from each other. Chumak took fourth, going 1:48.27, while Moran took sixth in the heat with a time of 1:48.70.
Carter Wallace took fourth in the 100 Freestyle B Finals, ending with a time of 45.06. Wallace has cut significant time since he competed in this event on Oct. 27, where he went 46.32.
Leonardo Sanchez topped the C Final for the event, going 45.35.
UP NEXT FOR THE CARDINALS
The women swim and dive team is under way at the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston (Nov. 16-18). For the men, they will face Texas A&M again on Dec. 15 in a one-day a dual meet in College Station, Texas.
