CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team continues Southland Conference play by heading back out on the road to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday night. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT) at the Dugan Wellness Center.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Cardinals enjoyed a collection of strong individual performances in their last match against Abilene Christian but fell in five sets Sept. 29.
- This was the first five-set match of the season for UIW.
- Senior outside hitter Autumn Lockley produced a team-best 26 kills, a new career high.
- This was Lockley's second 20+ kill performance of 2018 (also vs UTEP (8/24)).
- Lockley also led the team in attack percentage, hitting .476. This is the best attacking percentage of her career when recording 10 or more attacks.
- Freshman outside hitter Bethany Clapp recorded her second collegiate double-double, hitting 14 kills and recording a season-best 18 digs.
- Freshman setter Pilar Gonzaba earned her first collegiate double-double with 54 assists and 12 digs, both season-best numbers.
- Her 54 assists surpassed her previous season-best mark (42), set Sept. 27 vs. SHSU.
- Additionally, her 12 digs exceed her previous best (nine), set four times this season (most recently vs. SHSU (9/27)).
- Freshman middle blocker Carissa McGarity set a new season high in blocks with six. She posted one solo and five assisted blocks in the match.
- Sophomore libero Madelynn Miller led the team with 27 digs. It was the third time this season she has achieved 20+ digs.
- The loss ends a stretch of five matches in nine days for the Cardinals. They finished the stint 2-3.
CERTIFIED FRESH
- The Cardinal freshmen have asserted themselves as one of the top all-around freshman classes in the conference.
- Clapp has established herself as a premier offensive weapon on the outside. She leads the team with 165 kills, including 72 kills in five SLC matches. Her 3.24 kills per set is the best among freshman in the conference, and sixth best overall.
- She posted an .824 hitting percentage in UIW's victory over Alcorn State (9/15), the best attacking percentage for a single match in the conference (minimum of 12 kills)
- Clapp has now posted double-digit kills in each of her last seven matches, marking the longest such streak since Lockley posted 12 consecutive double-digit kill performances in 2016.
- McGarity sits among the top freshmen in the SLC with 0.94 blocks per set played. She also leads the team with 50.0 blocks this year.
- Gonzaba has eclipsed the 300 assist plateau this season; her current total is 313. She has delivered 96 assists in her last two matches (12.0 assists per set).
- Her 42-assist performance in UIW's 3-0 win over SHSU (Sept. 27) stands as the most assists by anyone in the SLC over the course of a 3-set match.
- On the season, Gonzaba sits third best among freshmen in the conference, and eighth best overall, with 7.45 assists per set.
CARDINALS IN CONFERENCE
- UIW has a 2-3 SLC record.
- Clapp leads the conference in total kills (72), 23 kills above the next closest competitor.
- She is also the top freshman in the conference, and fourth best overall, in kills per set (3.6).
- Miller leads the SLC with 95 digs. She ranks fourth in the conference in digs per set, averaging 4.75.
- Gonzaba owns 154 assists in conference play, the second most in the conference.
- She averages 9.62 assists per set in conference play, which is sixth most in the conference and the best among qualifying freshman setters.
- McGarity is second in the conference with 21 blocks, just three back from first place.
- She averages 1.05 blocks per set. This is the second best average among SLC freshman and the ninth best in the conference.
- Lockley recorded 26 kills against ACU in her last match. This is the most kills in a single match of any SLC student-athlete in 2018.
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M CORPUS CHRISTI
- The Islanders enter Saturday's match with a 3-14 record. They are 2-2 in SLC play.
- They lost both matches last week on the road against UCA (3-1) and SFA (3-0). They hold a 3-2 record on their home court.
- TAMCC is led, offensively, by three different attacking players, each averaging over two kills per set: Rachel Young (2.3), Madison Green (2.12) and Chloe Simon (2.11).
- TAMCC leads the all-time series with UIW, 9-1, with the lone Cardinal victory coming back in 2000.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals play their fifth SLC road match of the season Saturday (1 p.m. CT) against Houston Baptist. They follow that match with four days off before another weekend slate of conference matches against SFA (Oct. 11, 7 p.m. CT) and UCA (Oct. 13, noon CT) at the McDermott Center.
