Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Season at Air Force

USAFA, Colo. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis opens their 2018 spring season with three matches in Colorado. On Friday, the Cardinals face the host Air Force Falcons, followed by matches with Northern Colorado on Saturday and Georgia Southern on Sunday.
 
OPENING SERVE
 
Match times for the three contests are as follows: Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at noon, and Sunday at 10:30 a.m., all central times. There will be a live stream for all three matches, located above.
 
Last season, the Cardinals went 6-15 overall and 1-4 in the Southland Conference. UIW hosted Georgia Southern last season and fell, 4-1, as the team of Ivanhoe Lissanevitch and Nedim Ahmic defeated Stefano Di Aloy and Murphy McCollough in doubles action, 6-3.
 
Air Force went 8-17 last season and 0-7 in Mountain West Conference action. Northern Colorado was 8-13 and 3-8 in Big Sky Conference play a season ago. The Bears opened their 2018 campaign with a 4-3 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Jan. 20. Georgia Southern was 19-12 last season and 2-2 Sun Belt action. The Eagles opened the spring season with a 5-2 defeat to Mercer on Jan. 23.
 
MATCH POINT
 
UIW has only one senior (Joe Vatanadilok), five juniors, three sophomores, and one freshman. Junior Paco Bendana was named Southland Conference Co-Player of the Week on Apr. 11.
 
This past fall, the Cardinals advanced as far as the Round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships on Oct. 25, and Sebastian Mortier and Gabriel Evans won the doubles championship at the Rice Invitational on Oct. 2.
 
UP NEXT

UIW makes the short trek to St. Mary's for a dual meet on Friday, Feb. 2 at 1:30 p.m. from the Anne Marie Tennis Center.
