Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Cardinals Fall in Weather-Delayed Southland Championship

BEAUMONT, TEXAS – The Southland Men's Tennis Championship did not go as planned for top-seeded Incarnate Word on Tuesday as the Cardinals fell by a 4-0 score to third-seeded Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. The title bout was delayed by more than 10 hours and experienced a change of venue due to inclement weather in the area.

Incarnate Word, the tournament's top seed, finishes the season 13-4 overall, while Texas A&M - Corpus Christi now has a 17-4 record on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Texas A&M - Corpus Christi wasted no time picking up the first point of the day with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, taking a 1-0 lead in the match just as they did a week ago when these two teams met in the regular season finale.
  • The Islanders completed the shutout with straight set wins on courts four, five, and six to claim the program's 11th Southland Tournament Title.
  • Alejandro Hernandez, Emilio Vila, and Marcel Miralles each won the first set of their respective matches, but each decision was left unfinished after TAMUCC earned the match-clinching fourth point.
  • Hernandez, the 2026 Southland Player of the Year, was honored after the match with a spot on the All-Tournament Singles Team along with Vila, who was also an all-conference selection this season.
