SAN ANTONIO—The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team hosted Stephen F. Austin in a Southland Conference match on Saturday, but the Lumberjacks handed the Cardinals a 6-1 defeat at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In doubles, the 'Jacks took the first two matches at the #2 and #3 courts 6-2, and 6-3 respectively to earn the first point of the contest. Matea Zemunik and Rachel Sadiq at #1 were only down 4-5 when their match had to stop early after SFA secured the point.

In singles, the Cardinals (5-17, 2-7 SLC) were only able to win one match. It was Sarah Savedra who gave the Cardinals a win at the #4 position, as she beat Sian Payne in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. The 'Jacks (8-9, 4-4 SLC) grabbed wins in all the other courts, securing their fourth conference win of the season.

UP NEXT

The Cardinals will turn right around and play another conference match tomorrow, Sunday, against Northwestern State at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center at 11 a.m.

STAY TUNED

UIW will then close out the season with a road match at Abilene Christian on Friday, April 14 at 12 p.m.
