Game Notes
SAN ANTONIO, TX – After playing the first 20 games on the road, the University of the Incarnate Word softball team is set for their home opener at Cardinals Field as UIW opens Southland Conference play against Sam Houston State on Friday starting at 4 p.m. The Cardinals (4-16, 0-0) finish Friday's doubleheader with a game at 6p.m. and the series concludes on Saturday at noon against the Bearkats.
Scouting the Cardinals
Kristen Hebert hit a two-run home run in UIW's 11-2 loss at Texas State Wednesday night in five innings.
On the season,
Danielle Ramirez - who had two of the Cardinals' four hits against the Bobcats - leads the team, and is second in the Southland Conference, with a .435 batting average, going 20-for-46 at the plate. She has five runs, two triples, and three RBI.
Marcela Lopez follows with a .318 average.
Mikaela Flores, who is batting .255, leads the team with 10 RBI and four doubles.
In the circle,
Jessica Rodriguez has seen action in two games and has a staff-best 4.04 ERA.
Joanna Valencia is 1-3 with a 5.94 ERA.
Sarah Leal has a staff-best 23 strikeouts. As a team, the Cardinals are 10th in the conference with a .227 average and last with a 6.78 ERA.
Scouting the Bearkats
Sam Houston's game against Texas A&M Wednesday was postponed. Prior to that, the Bearkats went 1-3 at the Houston Tournament, defeating ULM 6-3 in the finale.
Tori Koerselman is batting .404 (23-for-57), which ranks sixth in the conference. She also leads the team with 17 runs scored. Kaitlynn Dawson is 10th in the SLC with a .366 average. Tiffany Thompson, who is batting .333, leads the team with 13 RBI.
Taylor Atkinson has seen most of the action in the circle and is 2-7 with a 2.70 ERA. Her 23 strikeouts are one short of leader Lindsey McLeod. As a team, the Bearkats are second in the SLC with a .297 batting average and is eighth with a 4.67 ERA.
