SAN MARCOS, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will hit the road for a midweek matchup against Texas State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before starting Southland Conference play on Friday.
Scouting the Cardinals
UIW is on an eight-game losing streak after going 0-5 at the Maverick Classic last weekend, falling to host UT Arlington and Saint Francis twice and Tulsa once.
On the season,
Danielle Ramirez is batting .409 (18-for-44) with four runs, two triples, and three RBI.
Marcela Lopez,
Christy Trevino, and
Nina Flores each have a .333 batting average.
Mikaela Flores, who is batting .264, leads the Cardinals with four doubles, 10 RBI, and joins Alex Alonso with a home run. In the circle,
Bridget Stein and
Sarah Leal have seen the most action, with both seeing action in 11 games. Stein is 0-3 with 17 strikeouts compared to eight walks. Leal is 1-7 with three complete games, two saves, 23 strikeouts and 15 walks. As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .228 at the plate and have a team ERA of 6.34.
Scouting the Bobcats
Texas State went 3-1 at the Auburn Classic, only falling to host No. 2/3 Tigers, 8-1. Prior to the tournament, the Bobcats defeated Texas in Austin, 2-1, on March 1.
The Bobcats as a team have just a .214 team batting average, but the squad ERA is 1.48. Jaelyn Young has a team-best .295 average with 13 hits, two doubles, six home runs, and nine runs. Ariel Ortiz has hit five home runs, as the Bobcats as a team have swatted 16 homers. In the circle, Randi Rupp is 8-2 with a 1.38 ERA with five complete games, three shutouts (two solo and one shared), one save, 85 strikeouts, and 20 walks.
