Houston, TX - The University of the Incarnate Word softball team continues Southland Conference play this weekend as they take on Houston Baptist in a three game series. The action starts with a double header on Friday with first pitch at 1:00 p.m. The series finale will be on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Husky Field.
Scouting the Cardinals
UIW gave the top team in the conference, McNeese, all it could handle, but was swept in the three-game series, 15-4, 6-4, and 8-3. The first game was 6-4 heading to the fifth inning before the Cowgirls scored nine runs in the top of the frame.
Danielle Ramirez hit .750 in the series en route to being named SLC Honorable Mention Player of the Week.
On the season, Ramirez is 4th in the Southland with a .400 batting average, going 32-for-80 with three triples, nine runs, and four RBI.
Marcela Lopez leads the Cardinals with 10 runs scored.
Mikaela Flores, who is hitting .259, is tops with 15 RBI and five doubles. In the circle,
Joanna Valencia is 2-5 with a 4.87 ERA, one complete game, 29 walks, and 20 strikeouts.
Bridget Stein leads the staff with 33 strikeouts. As a team, UIW is 11th with a .228 average and last with a 6.19 ERA.
Scouting the Huskies
HBU snapped its 11-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory at crosstown rival Texas Southern on Tuesday. On the season, Cecilia Bauer is 8th in the conference with a .359 batting average. She leads the team with three homers and her 12 RBI trail Heidi Jaquez's 13. In the circle, Emily Mueller is 3-11 with a 5.03 ERA and 29 strikeouts.
