Cardinals Return to Action in UT-Arlington Tournament

ARLINGTON, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team returns to action on Friday as they start the UT-Arlington Tournament. The Cardinals begin the tournament with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. against Tulsa, followed by a matchup against UT-Arlington at 3 p.m. On Saturday, UIW faces Saint Francis at 10 a.m. and they take on UT- Arlington once again at 3 p.m. The tournament concludes on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Saint Francis.
 
THE FIRST PITCH
 
UIW (4-10, 0-0) won a thriller in the opener at the UTSA Tournament, defeating the host Roadrunners for the first time in program history, 5-4 in nine innings on Friday. But the Cardinals lost the remaining three games of the tournament to New Mexico, Texas State, and UTSA.
    
On the season, Christy Trevino leads the Cardinals with a .421 batting average, going 8-for-19 with two doubles and two RBI. Mikaela Flores has a team-best seven RBI, as she is 8-for-38 with two runs, two doubles, and one home run. In the circle, Jessica Rodriguez has a 4.04 ERA. Bridget Stein has seen the most action on the rubber and is 0-2 with a 6.79 ERA with nine appearances and three starts. Sarah Leal has struck out a staff-best 18 batters.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
Tulsa went 4-1 at the Lamar Cardinal Classic last weekend, defeating Alabama A&M, McNeese, Kansas, and Lamar, with the only loss coming by the hands of Northern Illinois. On the season, Morgan Neal is hitting .463 (19-for-41) with four runs, one double, and five RBI. Julia Hollingsworth is batting .417 and leads the team with 12 RBI and 13 runs. In the circle, Haley Meinen is 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA.
    
 UTA split a doubleheader from Saint Francis on Feb. 28, losing 6-3 and winning 6-0. The Mavericks host Southern on Thursday prior to the tournament.
    
On the season, Krista Rude is hitting .451 (23-for-51) with six runs, eight RBI and one double. Reagan Wright leads the team with 10 RBI. On the season, Sam Clakley is 8-2 with a 0.61 ERA, eight complete games, five shutouts, and 48 shutouts.
    
 Saint Francis split a doubleheader at North Texas on Wednesday, losing the first game 2-0 and winning the second 11-2 in six innings.
    
 On the season, Cheyenne McKee is hitting .407 (22-for-54) with five doubles, three triples, one home run, eight RBI, and 15 runs. Jordan Seneca, who is batting .296, leads the Red Flash with 19 RBI and six homers. In the circle, Ethel Santai is 4-1 with a 1.91 ERA.
