HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team dropped a Southland Conference match 6-1 at Sam Houston State on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinals (3-12, 0-3 SLC) dropped two of the three doubles' matches, handing the Bearkats (5-9, 2-2 SLC) the first point of the afternoon. Maria Batchinsky and Alejandro Tamayo paired up at the #3 position to win the lone doubles' match for UIW 6-2.

In singles, the Bearkats defeated the Cardinals in all courts except for at #6, where Tamayo pulled out the victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Matea Zemunik played a tight match at #1. She won the first set 6-2, lost the second 6-4, and lost the third set in a tiebreaker 10-9.

UP NEXT

The Cardinals will stay out on the road for another conference match as they take on Lamar in Beaumont, Texas on Sunday at 1 p.m.

STAY TUNED

UIW will then come back home for two conference matches at the Mabry Tennis Center. They'll host  McNeese on Saturday at 11 a.m., and Nicholls on Sunday at 10 a.m.
